The Moose are Loose! Correction. They’re Lost

Its July and hockey is in hibernation mode. Its also a time to look back and see what our local hockey AHL team has accomplished. It has been two years since the Manitoba Moose have returned. It is pretty unique and special to see a NHL and AHL team share the same market and fanbase. Along with Toronto and San Jose, Winnipeg has its NHL and AHL affiliate play and operate in the same city. Fans can see young prospects learn the pro-game for a few seasons in the AHL and then move up to the NHL club down the hall/street.  True North Sports Entertainment has  appealed to that dynamic by marketing a rallying cry for the Manitoba Moose, “It all starts here!” It sounds great but when you look at the win-loss record, potential Winnipeg Jets players are starting off on the wrong foot.   Year Win % Playoffs Avg Age 2011-12* 0.618 Conf. Winnipeg Jets 2013-14 Player Leaders and GM Analysis

The new Winnipeg Jets 2.0 established themselves as a mediocre NHL team in 2011-12, finishing 4th in their division and missing the playoffs. Being built on the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team True North acquired a team that were just one or two steps above an expansion franchise. The 2013-14 team marks the third complete season since the Jets have returned to Winnipeg. As you will see, the team remains not much better than the old Thrashers franchise. What follows is an analysis of the 2013-14 team and how Jets Management has been successful in building the team, with a particular focus on GM Kevin Chevaldayoff and the transactions he implemented. Each player who played in 2013-14 is identified by how they were acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets which can be via a Trade deal, a Draft pick, a Free Agent signing, or a Waiver pickup. Winnipeg Jets 2012-13 Player Leaders and GM Analysis

The new Winnipeg Jets 2.0 established themselves as a mediocre NHL team in 2011-12, finishing 4th in their division and missing the playoffs. Being built on the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team True North acquired a team that were just one or two steps above an expansion franchise. But despite this poor outcome Winnipeg and Manitoba adopted the team enthusiastically. Jets fans would have to wait a bit longer to watch their new team play in 2012-13 when NHL owners locked out the players for four months which resulted in the season starting in January and limiting the season to 48 games. What follows is an analysis of the 2012-13 team and how Jets Management has been successful in building the team, with a particular focus on GM Kevin Chevaldayoff and the transactions he implemented. Winnipeg Jets 2011-12 Player Leaders and GM Analysis

The new Winnipeg Jets 2.0 would be built on the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team that did not have much to be proud of.  True North acquired a team that were just one or two steps above an expansion franchise. Winnipeg and Manitoba adopted the team enthusiastically despite the team’s past performance. To begin analyzing how GM Kevin Chevaldayoff has attended to the team here is a list of the Winnipeg Jets skaters (ranked by point totals) and goalies (ranked by games played) for the 2011-12 season, their first in Winnipeg. Each player who played in 2011-12 is identified by how they were acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets which can be via a Trade deal, a Draft pick, a Free Agent signing, or a Waiver pickup.
